Review: Build & Play Ford Mustang from Revell

This toy couldn't have arrived at a better time for review. Logan had just gone back to school and the other half and I promised him that if he was a good boy and behaved he would get a little treat. Luckily this turned up at the perfect moment and I kept it aside for when the school week had finished.

This toy is a Build & Play Ford Mustang from Revell. For those of you that don't know, Revell provide a wide range and variety of true-to-the-original model kits for people to build and enjoy. Here's a little bit more about them: "For almost 60 years now Revell has stood for unique expertise in the development and making of true-to-the-original plastic model kits. Today, Revell is not only the market leader in Germany but also throughout Europe. Furthermore, in recent years the company has emerged as one of the leading suppliers of remote-controlled products on the toy market. What’s more, in 2012 Revell GmbH joined the globally operating Hobbico Group with headquarters in Champaign, Illinois/USA. Hobbico is the world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of RC model products for the hobby industry. In assuming distribution of the Hobbico brands in Europe, Revell continues on its path towards becoming a fully comprehensive supplier to the modelling market."

Revell have everything a model builder could want from Easykits for beginners to sophisticated kits for professional model builders. Logan received the Ford Mustang from the new Build & Play collection to try out. It's for ages 6+ this model so I thought Logan could probably handle it pretty well. We're very used to building using other toy products and I had my fingers crossed this would go down a treat. I'm glad to say Logan was very happy to receive this toy and had the box opened in seconds. It says on the box that it should take around 15-30 minutes to build this car as it has 12 pre-coloured parts that can fit together without tools. Logan put it to the test and got stuck in. He found it quite easy to build and only required help from his Daddy on a couple of parts. All in all it took around 10 minutes for him to complete. He was expecting it to do something when built but I explained it was a car for pretend play and he seemed happy with this. He even got some Lego mini figures to put in the driving seat, and yes they do fit, and pretended to drive the car around up my doors/ walls on the floor etc. He really seemed to be enjoying it.

The launch range includes the sporty American classic Ford Mustang GT (12 parts, 190mm); the turbo-charged supercar Audi R8 (15 parts, 177mm); and the iconic Ford Police Car (17 parts, 215mm). Revell have described these toys as "durable" however when Logan dropped it by mistake the car broke into pieces. The actual parts weren't broken so it was easy enough to fix back up but I'm not sure how pleased I'd be if I had to help fix it every time he dropped it. Luckily it's only been the once so far. Some one has also some how stepped on top of the car which means the pieces of plastic either side of the front windscreen look slightly squished which is a shame.

Revell Build & Play is available from all good toy and model retailers. For details visit www.revell.de/en. They normally retail for around £9.50 and I think it's even on Amazon if you do a little search.

Overall Logan enjoyed building this and still enjoys playing with this car however it was quite quick to build so the joy of that was short lived. Maybe I should try him with the other models in the Build & Play set as they have more pieces. I think for what it is (a plastic toy car) it should be priced cheaper but it's good that it gets children into building their own models especially if they've watched an adult do it and weren't able to join in if it was too complicated.

Mummy's rating - 5/10
Logan's rating - 7/10

I was provided with the Build & Play Ford Mustang model in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
