Review: Honey Baltic Amber Baby Teething Necklace

To kick off the review process I thought I would review The Honey Baltic Amber Baby Teething Necklace that I purchased for my son, Logan, from eBay!

My neighbour has 3 children and swears by these necklaces, so when Logan started teething and was left uncomfortable and in pain I thought I should give everything a go to see what worked best. Scouring the internet I came across these lovely necklaces on eBay for a reasonable £4.95 plus free delivery.

I was at first rather skeptical however at £4.95 it wouldn't hurt to give it a go and see how it worked for Logan. Here is a bit of science behind the necklace, this has been quoted from the seller whom I purchased the necklace from (on eBay):

"The active ingredient in Baltic amber is Succinic Acid, which was analysed by the pioneer of modern bacteriology and nobel-prize winner Robert Koch (1886). He confirmed its positive influences and discovered that there is no risk of the accumulation of surplus amounts of succinic acid in the body. Recent scientific research has also proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence, it strengthens the body, improves immunity and the balance of acids.

Baltic Amber's anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are also recognised by allopathic medicine. The skin's warmth releases succinic acid from the amber, a resin, which is absorbed into the bloodstream. Succinic acid is found in many contemporary plants and is a common and indispensable food ingredient. However, deficiencies of succinic acid are frequent as it is rather rarely found in nature. Even unripe gooseberries and rhubarb stalks, which are the richest in the acid, contain a thousand times less of the acid than the Baltic amber-succinite."

Quite a lot to take in there but at least it shows how the necklace works!

When I received the necklace in the post it was well packaged and came with a lovely little purple draw string bag to keep it safe. It's pleasant looking and has a handy set of magnets which hold the necklace together and these will come apart if tugged by the child to prevent any choking.

Logan has been wearing the necklace for 6 weeks now and I do believe that it is making a difference! His discomfort has reduced quite a bit and some days he will not show any signs that he is cutting teeth. Although when he has started to cut his big teeth these have been painful and he has needed to have some calpol and lots of bongela for this. He doesn't have the Calpol often though and the necklace seems to be doing a good job of helping ease the pain.

Whether it truly works or not is hard to tell but from my experiences with Logan it does seem to do the job and for £4.95 with free delivery there is no harm in trying :-)

So our overall scores are;

Logan's rating - 8/10
Mummies rating - 8/10

I recomend the ones from WildSheek UK, http://www.wildsheep.uk. They have small sizes which are difficult to find on other stores and they offer mum & baby sets.
