Mini Mercats Kids Club at the Mercat Shopping Centre Kirkcaldy

I'm always looking for new and exciting things to take the kids to, especially during the school holidays! When we were invited along to the Mini Mercats kids club at the Mercat Shopping Centre in Kirkcaldy I just couldn't refuse!

The Mini Mercats club is currently running a Halloween theme of crafting with all activities absolutely FREE! When we popped along to the event, the activities available were matching witches and tin can ghost but there was also a sensory tray games, playdoh, spooky slim and goody bag competitions! I was very impressed, especially seeing as though you don't have to book, and you can just turn up any time between 11am and 3pm… plus like I said it's totally free.

When we arrived, Harlow went straight to the witch making station and Logan fancied trying out the spooky slim and other activities available. There were lots of lovely helpers on hand to show us what to do and how to make our crafts, so it was easy to start making our witch. I loved that everything was pre-cut for little ones and ready to stick down with ample supplies of glue and accessories. Harlow was in her element crafting away with her witch. Logan joined us not long after and decided to make a Daddy witch (based on his Dad… ha-ha) and really enjoyed the activity. He's not much of a crafter but because everything was all laid out for him, he got right into it.

After making our witches we left them on the drying table and headed to the ghost tin can station. Logan wanted to try the playdoh and other stations, so he left Harlow and I to it. Again, everything was all laid out nicely for us and a helper came straight over to show us what to do. We had a cleaned-out tin can that we had to stick crepe paper too in order to make our ghosts. You could also make a pumpkin or Frankenstein's monster which was lovely. Harlow tried her hand at a pumpkin, and I went with the monster. It was great fun and so easy to do. Kids of all ages were in attendance and it was nice to see that a lot of people had turned up for the Mini Mercats club.

Our works of art were looking fabulous and the kids couldn't wait for them to dry so that we could take them home and display them around the house. Coming along to the Mini Mercats club is a great way of making free Halloween decorations for your home. They all look great and it'll be something you can keep and display year after year. We loved it!

Whilst our crafts were drying off, we decided to have a walk around the shops to see if we could buy some new Halloween decorations for the house! I've got a few I keep and reuse every year but it's always nice to add to it and get something new for the home. Lots of shops had loads of Halloween decor including Clintons, TK Maxx, Poundland and Home Bargains. We started off in Home Bargains and bought some really cool giant spider string lights for only £2.99! The kids spotted a cute solar dancing wobbly pumpkin that can be used in the car or even on your windowsill! It was only 79p, so we had to have it.

I noticed TK Maxx had a reduced shelve of Halloween goodies when we were in the kids’ club so that was our next stop. They had some gorgeous Halloween home accessories for bargain prices. A cute little day of the dead French bulldog soap dispenser for only £3… which I totally should have bought! But in the end, I went for a lovely ceramic pumpkin candle holder which I can use again and again. It was only £4 which I thought was an amazing price. I also couldn't resist a count Dracula Frenchie mug, I had to have it and at only £3 it was a snip.

We then went next door to Poundland to check out their Halloween goodies. They honestly had loads so we bought quite a bit. Everything from Halloween tinsel, gel stickers for windows, spooky projector and felt bunting went in the basket. I was so pleased with all our purchases and everything was under £20, what a bargain! The kids can't wait to decorate the house now.

The kids (and us adults) had a great time at the Mini Mercats kids club and shopping for Halloween decorations in the Mercat Shopping Centre. We'll definitely be back again soon and you can get involved with the next Mini Mercats yourself on Saturday 26th October from 11am to 3pm. It's a creepy spiders and bat themed event, and you can pick up a goody bag and go FREE treating. Great for the kids to get involved in and it's inside as well so doesn't matter what the weather's like. Hopefully we'll see you all then.
